10/22/06 Lumbre Update: Hello everyone, hope you are all doing well. Lumbre has a lot of things going on right now. The first and most important item is that after five years of having the same members Thomas Guerra Jr. (guitarist) has announced that he will retire within the coming months. Thomas has received a great advancement in his employment and is taking advantage of this opportunity. Unfortunately it will enable him to tour on the weekends with the band. Lumbre is proud of Thomas and everything that he has helped us accomplish over the years. Thomas is not only our guitarist, he is our sound man, our veteran, a hard worker and our brother that will be missed. We wish Thomas the best of luck and will always keep him close to our heart. Those of you wondering how Pedro is doing can rest easy. Pedro is making a great recovery and after almost a three month absence, is now back on stage. We are very blessed to have him back and thank everyone who has had him in your thoughts and prayers. We will be trying out guitarist or bajo sexto players (living close to the Central Texas area), we prefer the ability to play both. We would like this person to be a serious team player, we don't have any room for poor attitudes, this is a fun and family oriented band, if you don't have a sense of humor you need not apply. We ask that this person have strong weekend availability, be drug free, not smoke or drink on stage, have a passport or be able to get one for international and military tours (Iraq, Afghanistan, Kuwait, Bosnia, Kosovo, etc.) and if possible have some country music experience. To schedule an interview, call 254-458-3136. ~Lumbre Staff~ ============================== 07/12/06 Lumbre Update: On the night of June 23, 2006 at approximately 8:45 P.M., Pedro Rodriguez (28), bassist for Lumbre suffered a severe stroke. Pedro was unable to walk or talk for the first 24 hours and was hospitalized. Over the last couple of weeks Pedro has steadily improved, though he will not return to playing for a few months, his doctor does expect him to make a great recovery. Pedro is currently undergoing intensive therapy and any prayers would be greatly appreciated. Lumbre will continue their schedule and pray for Pedro's quick return. CEO Dwayne Ulloa, who is a big fan of Tejano music, chose Lumbre because of their diversity. Lumbre can perform Tejano, Rock, Oldies and Country, which will provide for a variety of entertainment for the troops. Lumbre is a band with a diverse conjunto/Tejano sound. Based out of central Texas, their sound truly reflects the heart of the state. Lumbre is currently working on their second CD to be released in May 2005. Lumbre is thrilled to have received three nominations for their first CD entitled “Lumbre” from the Texas Talent Musicians Association producers of the Tejano Music Awards. The band has toured in Illinois, California, Colorado and Kansas, and will be touring Washington, Oregon, Wisconsin, and Las Vegas later this year. Lumbre did not wait for a record deal, they funded the project themselves and it paid off. They are the only band nominated for a Tejano Music award as an independent artist. Lumbre is proud to represent the towns of Killeen/Fort Hood, Temple, and Waco. Lumbre has performed at the Tejano Fan Fair, the Fort Hood Christmas Party, and Brazos Summer Nights in Waco, plus many other community events. Going on this tour for the troops is a dream come true for bandleader, Gerald Quezada whose father retired from the military. Lumbre is made up of five members. Gerald is the lead vocalist and comes from a military family with a strong country background. He was raised and still resides in Killeen. He brings life to the songs. Fans have said that he makes you feel like he is singing only for you. His immense kindness and caring personality shines through in every performance. Mario plays accordion and is also the musical arranger for the group. He is musically talented beyond his years. Chris, drummer and vocalist, started playing at age seven with his dad’s band and compliments the band with his great singing style. Thomas, guitar and bajo sexto player adds years of experience and determination to the group. Pedro is a self taught bass player. He decided to follow in his grandfathers footsteps seeking a career in music. Now an intricate part of Lumbre, he is the key to their unity. Lumbre has invited a young female vocalist from Houston to add a little spice to the show. Her name is Kristen Guevara formerly of the group Kalor. She has also volunteered to suffer the burdens of being on the road to entertain the troops. TJS Bravo Entertainment assisted AKA Productions in bring this tour together. Everyone is very proud to be a part of this great endeavor.
